Independent Swim Test:
Children 10 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Any child of age 11 and 12, who wishes to swim at Cannon Pool without adult supervision, must take the independence test. This test is administered by a Cannon Pool Lifeguard.
To pass the test a child must complete the following;
- Tread water for 30 seconds
- Swim the length of the pool (shallow to deep — not the width)
- Hold their breath with their faces in the water for more than 10 seconds.
Children who pass this test will be given a permission slip that MUST be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to Cannon Pool. This form also confirms that the parent/guardian had read the Rules of Conduct and confirms that their child will abide by those rules. This form will be kept on file in the Cannon Pool Office for the remainder of the pool season. Every child must be re-certified every pool season.
